92.5 per cent of IFUT members voting supported industrial action
Staff at Maynooth University are preparing to participate in industrial action in October.
It's after Irish Federation of University Teachers members nationally voted overwhelmingly in favour of action up to and including strike action, saying the Government has failed to establish a credible basis for negotiations on pay and a successor public service agreement.
The dispute also encompasses unresolved Local Bargaining commitments and protection against unilateral changes to working arrangements.
92.5 per cent of members voting supported industrial action, beginning on Monday 5 October.
It will involve a one-hour withdrawal of labour from 12 noon to 1.00 p.m.
This will be followed by a 24-hour strike on Wednesday, 14 October; and a further 24-hour strike on Wednesday, 21 October.
The action will proceed subject to the required statutory notice arrangements.
IFUT Deputy General Secretary Miriam Hamilton said "it is not enough to celebrate education while the people delivering it are left waiting for a credible approach to their pay and working conditions".
She added that "members have shown considerable patience. They are now saying that patience cannot become an excuse for further delay”.
