At the height of the 1980s and early 1990s, Monasterevin was home to a multitude of textile business, including knitwear and wool.
Plans for the Monasterevin Textile and Fashion Hub are expected to start early next year.
The Hub, to be established in the former Bank of Ireland building on Market Square, is expected to go to tender towards the end of this year.
If all goes as planned, it could be open next year.
