The majority of 24-hour driving disqualification orders, which allowed drivers to avoid penalty points due to a legal loophole, were issued by Naas District Court, according to Courts Service figures.
Of the 33 such orders granted nationwide in 2023 and 2024, 27 came from Naas District Court.
The loophole, which was highlighted by The Irish Times, was addressed in the Road Traffic Act 2024, but the provision to close it has not yet been enacted.
The Department of Transport says the necessary commencement order is expected to be signed by Minister Darragh O’Brien by the end of this month.
