It came out on top in the large urban centre category
Naas has been crowned Ireland’s Best Kept Town, coming out ahead of Derry, Omagh in Co Tyrone, and Carrigaline in Co Cork in the large urban centre category.
The competition evaluated towns and villages across the island based on public cleanliness and amenities, the visual appeal of roads and buildings, and the quality of local wildlife and green spaces.
Earlier this week, Naas was also named Ireland’s cleanest town by the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) group — a title it has now claimed three times since 2020.
The An Taisce-led survey highlighted the “spotless” condition of Naas plaza and the well-maintained canal bank.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Ireland’s Best Kept Town competition — a cross-border initiative that links the Republic’s SuperValu TidyTowns scheme with the Northern Ireland Amenity Council’s Best Kept awards.
Elsewhere, Buncrana in Co Donegal was awarded Best Kept Large Town, beating out Rush, Co Dublin, and Comber, Co Down.
In the small town category, Royal Hillsborough, Co Down, took top honours over Carlingford, Co Louth; Bagenalstown, Co Carlow; and Randalstown, Co Antrim.
