A new childhood home visiting service is launching in Athy.
The service will provide home visitors who will work alongside parents from pregnancy to until the child turns five years old.
The Early Childhood Home Visiting Service is with children's charity, Barnardos.
These regular visits will provide guidance and advice for parents on how best to create a healthy and happy start in life for their children.
The service aims to provide parents with everything they need to know about how they can help their child’s development.
Athy had previously been identified as a pilot site by Barnardos, with various areas in Athy noted as areas of high disadvantage with a demographic profile that includes a high percentage of lone parents, Travellers, Ukrainian families and families with a nationality
other than Irish.
The last census identified 300 children under the age of 6 years in one area of the town.
