"Feed Kildare" is a food bank service operating from the Bridge Church in Celbridge
A Food Bank with a difference will open next Wednesday at the Bridge Church in Celbridge.
It has been described as 'social supermarket'.
Traditionally food banks would give parcels to those using the service, but this project known as "Feed Kildare" which allow people to walk through a small supermarket style set-up and choose the food they want.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Pastor Matt Ryals said the concept is based on a similar model in Cork called "Feed Cork". The organisers have been assisting the "Feed Kildare" team, providing advice and operational considerations. Feed Cork feeds up to 200 people a week, according to Pastor Matt Ryals.
The "Feed Kildare" food bank will launch on Wednesday August 19th and will be operational every Wednesday from the Bridge Church in Celbridge. Some of the food provided will be donations. "Feed Kildare" is also working with the food charity FoodCloud that connects businesses with surplus food to charities.
