Fuels for Ireland says petrol and diesel are not discretionary products.
Motorists are facing a sharp increase in fuel costs to start the year, with petrol and diesel prices set to rise by between 4 and 6 cent per litre.
Fuels for Ireland says over the past five years, combined duties, taxes and levies - including the 2026 increases - have added around 19 euro to the cost of filling a typical 60-litre tank.
Its CEO Kevin McPartlan says petrol and diesel are not discretionary products.
