Approximately 115,000 people in Ireland have had 'long Covid', or will develop it, according to an Oireachtas study released last week.
The estimate accounts for 10% of all cases recorded to date.
In the Republic of Ireland near 1.2 million positive tests were recorded.
Independent TD Denis Naughten has said it could cost the state €925 million in social welfare payments.
"Long covid is defined as someone experiencing an ongoing illness three months after the first symptom.
Cognitive function and being able to think clearly is affected," said Naughten.
Newbridge man Paddy Flavin spoke about his struggle with a long-Covid diagnosis.
