Kildare County Council has no dedicated programme to upgrade home entrances for elderly residents struggling with access.
The admission came in response to a question from Councillor Fintan Brett (FG), who raised concerns about older housing estates including St Brigid’s Terrace in Sallins and St Patrick’s Park in Kill.
He asked whether any works are planned - or even at design stage - to address difficulties elderly residents are facing getting in and out of their homes.
In its reply, the Council confirmed Housing Maintenance has no specific works programme in place for upgrading entrances in its housing stock.
Instead, affected residents must apply individually for assistance through the Disabled Persons Grant or, in the case of private homes, the Housing Adaptation Grant.
According to the council, all applications are assessed on a priority-of-need basis.
