An orange fire warning has been issued by the Department of Agriculture, due to a "high risk" of fire over the coming days.
Arising from current weather patterns, the warning states there is a high fire risk in all areas where hazardous matter exists, such as dead grasses, heather and gorse.
The orange warning is now in effect and will remain in operation until Saturday morning.
Farmers, rural dwellers and particularly forestry owners and managers are being asked to be extremely vigilant regarding any fire activity.
The Department is asking people to report any suspicious or illegal fire activity to the Gardaí and fire services.
Members of the public visiting recreational areas are being asked not to light fires in or near forests or on open land.
They are also being asked to be considerate in parking vehicles, so not to impede access to emergency vehicles and to contact emergency services in the event they see fire burning in outdoor areas.
