More than 6,200 carers across Kildare are set to receive the annual Carer's Support Grant this week.
More than 6,200 carers across Kildare are set to receive the annual Carer's Support Grant this week, according to Senator Fiona O'Loughlin.
The €2,000 payment is available to people providing full-time care and forms part of a nationwide scheme that will benefit more than 147,000 carers this year, with total payments expected to exceed €336 million.
The grant is paid automatically to those receiving Carer's Allowance, Carer's Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance, while other eligible full-time carers may also qualify.
The grant is paid in respect of each person being cared for, meaning carers supporting more than one individual may receive multiple payments.
Further changes to supports for carers, including adjustments to the Carer's Allowance income disregard, are due to come into effect later this year.
Senator O'Loughlin welcomed the payment, saying it recognises the important contribution carers make in supporting older people, people with disabilities, and vulnerable members of the community.
