The funds will be used to deliver innovative community projects tackling unmet literacy needs, and benefit adults and communities across the region
€33,623 has been announced for key literacy projects in Kildare and Wicklow.
The announcement coincided with the recent Adult Literacy for Life (ALL) showcase event at the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise.
Some of the six Kildare and Wicklow projects receiving funding from SOLAS through the ALL Collaboration and Innovation Fund 2026 include:
- The Never Apart Storybook Project: An initiative to support fathers in Shelton Abbey Open Prison, Wicklow to help fathers, (many of whom have literacy challenges) to connect with their children through creative storytelling.
- The Living and Learning-Connections Programme: This programme will support 40 adults in County Wicklow to improve their literacy skills and promotes better overall wellbeing.
- The Stories to Share Initiative: This project delivers a 10-week workshop for parents through storytelling, creative activities and shared reading, where participants will develop literacy skills, build confidence and strengthen reading habits at home with their children.
