Cllr. Nuala Killeen in correspondence with KCC's Road Safety Officer
Parents in Leixlip are expressing concern over changes to school traffic wardens in the area.
A school warden was previously removed from Scoil Ui Dhalaigh in the latter half of 2021.
Cllr. Nuala Killeen has been in correspondence with the county's Road Safety Officer on the issue.
Kildare's Road Safety Officer, Declan Keogh, noted the relocation of the school warden operating at the Green Lane/Casletown Road junction in the town.
Mr. Keogh noted the "intermittent availability" of a school warden at the junction "is unfortunate but beyond our control".
He noted, "The alternative for a much safer route to school for students coming from the Easton Road side of the Castletown junction, is for students and adults to use the crossing point at the pedestrian controlled lights which are located beside Accommodation Road, passed by students on their route to school. These pedestrian lights are just 155 meters before the Castletown Road junction coming from the Easton Road side."
Cllr. Killeen has previously sought for the area to be designated a school streets zone.
She joined Clem Ryan on Friday morning's 'Kildare Today', saying students in their area are "not giving them a safer route to school":
