Mescal's co-star Anjana Vasan won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Maynooth man Paul Mescal has won Best Actor at the Olivier Awards in London for his portrayal of Stanley Kowalski in the new London production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire.
During his acceptance speech at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday evening, the 27-year-old thanked his mother Dearbhla, who is receiving treatment for cancer, adding: "I hope you get better."

Mescal's co-star Anjana Vasan won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and the production was also honoured with the Best Revival award.
Mescal has received rave reviews for his performance in A Streetcar Named Desire.
