An application is being made to the Department of Heritage.
A resolution on Caragh Bridge is a number of weeks away, according to Cllr. Rob Power.
A couple of weeks ago a vehicle took a chunk out of the wall and the bridge has been closed since.
"We are working with the consultant to get these emergency works done, "he said.
The Fianna Fail councillor has told KFM that works on Caragh Bridge must first be approved by the Department of Heritage.
"We have to apply to the department of Heritage for the works to go ahead, because the bridge is a protected structure," he said.
Cllr. Power has said businesses in Caragh have been severely impacted by the lack of passing trade.
"I have received a number of emails from residents in the area.
"Hopefully we will have an update on this soon," he added.
Cllr. Power spoke with Eoin Beatty on Monday morning's Kildare Today:
