KCC cited fire safety concerns, waste water provision and that it views the application as "premature" in its decision.
Kildare County Council has refused permission for a battery field on a 4 hectare site in Dunnstown.
Strategic Power Projects Limited sought 10 year planning permission for an enclosed battery energy storage system compound.
The application includes 76 battery storage units, each with associated containerized step-up transformer.
The firm also wants to install CCTV on the site, and create a new access point via the L6044.
KCC's, in issuing its decision, stated that it has "serious concerns with regard to fire safety aspects of the proposal", that "applicants have not provided sufficient detail regarding wastewater provision"
It also noted that it felt the application was "premature", as the development "is reliant on the availability of additional supporting infrastructure", namely, a 220KV substation adjacent to the site, which is currently the subject of a pre-application Strategic Infrastructure Development consultation with An Bord Pleanala and no determination has been made or consent received.
