Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is cutting 100 jobs at its Newbridge plant.
It's part of a global response to the collapse in sales of its Covid anti-viral medicine.
Around 1,200 people are currently employed there with the facility heavily involved in the production of Paxlovid.
The company has also announced it's expanding its workforce in Grangecastle in Dublin and Ringaskiddy in Cork by 230 people.
Trade Union Siptu has called on management to meet them over the company's planned policy of voluntary redundancies in Newbridge.
Labour Senator Mark Wall echoed Siptu's calls saying "The announcement from Pfizer today is deeply concerning. This will be a devastating blow for the workers and their families. Pfizer must now engage with union officials in a meaningful way."
