Plans for a €100 million solar farm In the townland of Dunnstown, near Two Mile House, have been lodged with Kildare County Council.
If planning permission is granted, the solar farm would span 318 acres across 30 fields of agricultural land that is currently used for 'pastoral farming'.
Portlaoise-based EEL Mullacash Solar Ltd has lodged the application and state the aim is to produce 105MW of renewable power.
The company also claims that the proposed development "will generate a range of economic benefits both in terms of its construction and operation, generating jobs for installation, maintenance, and its eventual remediation”.
In addition to the solar panels, arrays and electrical infrastructure, a range of support services will be required including haulage, on-site welfare facilities, refuse and recycling facilities, transport and potentially local accommodation for construction workers, according to the application.
