A possible site for a permanent swimming pool in Blessington has been identified.
Wicklow County Council own approximately 30 acres near Avon Rí in Blessington, some of which is zoned for recreation.
Members of the Campaign group 'Community Pool for West Wicklow' have been campaigning for a swimming pool in the area for the past five years.
People who want to swim have to travel out of Wicklow into neighbouring counties, like Kildare, many of which have swimming pools that are already over subscribed.
Swimming is part of the primary school curriculum, but some schools in Wicklow haven't be able to bring children to swim because of the logistics.
