The Association has accused the HSE of refusing to exempt mental health services from the hiring freeze.
The Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA), headquartered in Sallins, plans to ballot its members for industrial action due to the HSE's hiring freeze.
The union claims that the HSE has not excluded mental health services from the recruitment embargo set in place since November 2023.
The PNA stated that this ballot, which could lead to a strike, expresses members' frustration over a recent HSE memo that outlined exemptions to the hiring freeze but did not include mental health services.
