Plans for a major redevelopment of the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge have entered public consultation, with the proposed project aiming to create a more accessible and expanded cultural facility.
The public consultation process for the proposed redevelopment of the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge is now underway.
The plans include a number of significant changes to the facility, with proposals for increased seating, a deeper stage, improved changing facilities, gallery and workshop spaces and major accessibility improvements.
The redevelopment would include step-free access to the centre, with particular attention being given to making both public and backstage areas more accessible for people with disabilities.
The project is currently estimated at around €14 million, although the final cost and funding arrangements have yet to be confirmed.
The plans were discussed on Kildare Today this afternoon (August 11th), with Social Democrats councillor for the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, Chris Pender, encouraging people from across the county to examine the proposals and take part in the consultation.
He said the ambition is for the redeveloped Riverbank to operate as a county-wide cultural facility, rather than solely as an arts centre for Newbridge.
The proposals also come alongside the planned redevelopment of the neighbouring county library, potentially creating a larger cultural and community hub in the centre of the town.
More than 40 documents relating to the project are available as part of the consultation, with members of the public invited to make submissions on the plans.
The consultation remains open until 5pm on Tuesday, September 22nd.
