International protection applicants are due to be housed at the manor

A Public Meeting is scheduled for Thursday 13th April at 8pm in Caragh Community Centre, organised by Cllr Rob Power.

The meeting is in response to a proposal to turn Castlekealy Manor, a large five bedroom domestic dwelling house sitting on 33 acres into accommodation to house 29 international protection applicants from Ukraine.

This meeting has been organized so that all members of Castlekealy and Caragh residents, businesses and associations attending can voice their concerns and suggestions etc to the owner of Castlekealy Manor and a representative from Tetrarch who own Citywest Hotel and other hotels.

Speaking to Kfm, Cllr Power said he expects that most of the international protection applicants due to be housed in Castlekealy will have their own cars, because of its remote location.

He said it's likely that most of the people will come to Ireland via ferry through Rosslare Port in Wexford

Fianna Fail Cllr Rob Power joined Eoin Beatty on Thursday's Kildare Today, listen back to the full interview here.
