Round Hill Capital has purchased 135 homes in Maynooth,
135 brand new houses which had been up for sale in Maynooth, Co Kildare are being taken off the market.
It's because a real estate investment trust called Round Hill Capital secured a 53 million euro deal with the builder to buy out four fifths of the new estate.
It's been sharply criticised by local TDs -- who say house-hunters who'd signed up to the waiting list ahead of the sale have been badly let down.
Dr Lorcan Sirr, senior lecturer in housing policy at TU Dublin, says REITs are increasingly renting these properties back to the state.
