It comes as no feasibility study has been completed by the council for the future use of the building.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Sinn Féin Councillor for Kildare-Newbridge Noel Connolly said that there had been talk of it becoming a gallery or exhibition space:
"It is a huge space, there has been talks of a gallery or exhibition space, so what I would be looking for is a public consultation process so that the people of the town have their say on how it can be used."
The council have said that the continued success of Gather Craft shop and makers studio on the square in Kildare Town may feed into a future study of the courthouse, adding that any redevelopment that takes place is funding dependent.
