The Council had identified the sprawling property on the R445 as a possible location for refugees back in June.
Some 400 Ukrainian refugees are to be accommodated at the Red House Hotel in Ladytown.
The former Red House Hotel between Naas and Newbridge will be renovated into ‘Accommodation for Protected Persons’ - initially Ukrainian refugees.
The first phase of the project will initially accommodate 400 people fleeing the war torn Ukraine.
It was announced last night at public meeting which was organised by Fianna Fáil Cllr. Noel Heavey.
The Council has identified the sprawling property on the R445 as a possible location for refugees back in June, in a submission to Government departments in relation to the provision of accommodation.
A motion was brought forward by Cllr. Noel Heavey calling on the former hotel to be re-purposed to help ease the housing crisis within the local municipal district.
The Red House Hotel, a well known Co Kildare landmark and popular wedding venue, was completely destroyed in a huge blaze in February 2005.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area and spread up through the ducting into the old part of the building.
The building has been derelict ever since.
