Concerns relate to crossings at Cluain Aoibhinn and near Maynooth Town F.C
Speeding and pedestrian safety issues on the Rathcoffey road in Maynooth have been raised at a recent Municipal District meeting.
A motion was brought forward by Fianna Fáil Councillor for Clane-Maynooth MD Donna Phelan, asking for Kildare County Council to assess pedestrian signal crossings there.
The specific concerns relate to crossings at Cluain Aoibhinn and the crossing serving the Maynooth Town F.C sporting grounds.
There are requests for “slow” road markings to be installed on both approaches to each crossing, or other appropriate warning measures, to "improve driver awareness and pedestrian safety".
Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Phelan said residents are continually raising concerns about speeding:
"Residents continue to raise concerns about speeding and drivers breaking red lights, the footpaths here are narrow, making it difficult for someone with a buggy to pass other pedestrians, and there's no cycle lanes."
KCC have agreed to assess the locations with their Traffic Management Section to determine appropriate measures for the area.
Cllr Phelan said she is hoping that the works will be completed "by the end of the year".
