They were responding to an interview on Kildare Today with Cllr Carmel Kelly who urged people to attend a meeting this Saturday in Cafe Grange.
It would be illegal to limit members of the public from parking on a public road along Canal View and Church Avenue.
That's according to Kildare County Council who said permit only parking is not possible for residents living in the area.
The response came after FF Cllr Carmel Kelly raised the issue, saying residents in the area are being forced to park in "unlit areas" or fee paying car parks because they cannot get parking close to home.
The Canalside Residents and Business association said the council's response has come as a "complete shock" to residents in Sallins.
A spokesperson for the council said: "Kildare County Council cannot reserve parking on a public roadside exclusively for permit parking or resident parking only. While residents may qualify for resident’s parking permits, there is no provision to make parking spaces available exclusively for residents on a public road. The bye-laws limit where permits can be used but it would not be legal to limit members of the public utilising pay parking."
They were responding to an interview on Kildare Today with Cllr Carmel Kelly who urged people to attend a meeting this Saturday in Cafe Grange.
The meeting will discuss the next part of the proposed Sallins Grand Canal Greenway Link.
According to Cllr Kelly, the Greenway is a wonderful asset but the next phase is now open for consultation, with a number of changes planned.
Cllr Kelly said the meeting from 9am onwards will examine proposed maps drawn up as part of the next phase, with changes going to impact the centre of Sallins, ramps and the movement of people through the village.
She said it's vital that people don't come back after February 22nd saying "they didn't know" about the proposed changes.
She has urged people to come along and have their say.
