Events taking place from 19th – 20th May 2023
The Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Fintan Brett, will open the Seminar on the Friday evening at a special event featuring former RTÉ Security Correspondent Tom McCaughren on The Peacemakers of Niemba.
The Friday evening's event, attended by many serving and past members of the Defence Forces, usually sells out so tickets (free) should be booked in advance via the Riverbank website or by phoning 045448327.
The Friday evening event will also see the launch of a unique biographical dictionary of Co. Kildare men, women and children who took part in the fight for Ireland’s freedom in the revolutionary decade. ‘
The Saturday line-up features an exciting and varied programme of speakers and topics again this year, including talks on the Spanish Armada, the Irish Brigade at Monte Cassino, the War of Independence, the Niemba Ambush & a keynote address by Dr Síobhra Aiken titled Breaking The Silence: Writing the Civil War.
The full programme is available on the Riverbank website or by emailing localhistory@kildarecoco.ie
