The town's Alexandra Bridge now requires up-grade.
The opening of the Sallins By-Pass has had the anticipated effect of shunting traffic on to Clane.
The route opened in April.
Traffic in Clane now regularly tails-back along the Naas and Kilcock roads.
Alexandra Bridge, one of the main arteries in to the town, was built in the 1860s, and requires remediation.
It under-went strengthening works in the 1990s, and has sustained "substantial damage" following collisions.
Independent Cllr., Padraig McEvoy, raised the matter at the Clane Maynooth Municipal District.
He says works planned for next year have been brought forward, but more is needed
