Parents are being advised to apply to multiple secondary schools due to pressure on places.
Over half of schools are oversubscribed across the country, with the highest concentration in parts of Kildare, Dublin, Wicklow, Galway and Cork.
Areas most oversubscribed across the county include Prosperous/Clane, Celbridge, Naas, Kilcock, Kildare Town/Curragh, Maynooth, and Newbridge.
Kfm recently highlighted how the duplication of applications by parents is causing undue delays.
Now the Department Of Education has announced an upgrade to the school enrollment system.
They said the new system will instantly notify schools if a student has been accepted by multiple schools, allowing for the early detection of duplicate enrollments.
Cllr Angela Feeney said it is an issue that has gone on far too long.
