The Algerian national is an offender who was serving a three-month sentence in Mountjoy Prison
A manhunt is underway for a 23-year-old prisoner who walked free from Naas Circuit Criminal Court building due to what sources say was a “processing error”.
According to the Irish Independent, The Algerian national is an offender who was serving a three-month sentence in Mountjoy Prison for possession of “certain articles” understood to be connected to burglary.
He was brought from prison to the court on Friday to appeal against a seven-month sentence which was imposed on him at Naas District Court in November, 2024, when he was convicted of being caught with a “foil lined bag with the intention that it be used in the course of theft.”
His convictions mainly relate to burglary, theft and drug offences.
But in “confusing circumstances”, he walked out of the court even though he was to be transferred back to Mountjoy to serve the rest of his sentence.
This is understood to have happened after the court case he was appearing in got adjourned to a date later this month.
The escapee was living in Newbridge at the time of this alleged offence in October, 2023, but is now classified as homeless.
He is also the subject of a deportation order from this country.
It is understood that he is not a legal resident of Ireland.
