Seventeen motorists were arrested by the Kildare/Carlow garda division during the St. Patrick's Bank Holiday road safety campaign.
According to An Garda Síochána Kildare, one driver in Celbridge was arrested for drunk driving and was found to be almost five times over the limit.
The driver has been charged and now face a court appearance.
The campaign began at 7am on Thursday, March 12, and ran until 7am this morning.
Earlier this week, Kfm News reported on two speeding offences recorded in Kildare.
One vehicle was travelling at 81kmh in a 60kmh zone on the L3002 in Pluckerstown, Kilmeage.
A second vehicle was found doing 137kmh in a 120kmh zone on the M7 in Lewistown, Naas.
Over the course of the operation, in excess of 5,000 motorists were detected for speeding offences.
A further 500 drivers were detected for mobile phone and seat belt offences.
