St Cocas Club Condemns 'Mindless' Arson Attack On Newly Built Facility

The fire resulted in the complete destruction of their newly installed high jump mat and enclosure.

A week filled with athletic triumphs took a dark turn as a deliberate fire destroyed a newly built high jump facility at the St Cocas Athletic Club in Kilcock.

The fire resulted in the complete destruction of their newly installed high jump mat and enclosure. The incident was the second attempt to damage the facility.

Commenting on the fire, the club said: "Many members of the club worked very hard to achieve these fantastic facilities for our members to use in training and for them to be used in competitions hosted by our club. It is gutting to have that work and capability destroyed by a mindless purposeless act."

They added: "A previous attempt was foiled and additional measures were taken to secure the grounds and equipment, but where there’s an ill will, there’s always a way. Thankfully no one was injured on this occasion."

Local Cllr Tim Durkan condemned the incident:
