The baby was just four months old when his father was shot dead.

A man has been found guilty of murdering a young father who was shot dead while pushing his 4-month-old son in a pram near a school in Dublin in May 2019.

Wayne Cooney, from Glenshane Drive, Tallaght, Dublin, was also convicted of possessing a semi-automatic pistol and 9mm bullets for it.

In his opening address three weeks ago, the prosecuting barrister described the shooting dead of Jordan Davis in front of his baby son as “callous and brutal.”

After Wayne Cooney was convicted today, the judge echoed those remarks by describing it as an “unspeakable crime” executed with “astonishing recklessness.”

At the time of his murder, Jordan Davis was a 2 year old and owed €70,000 to a local drug dealer. It’s believed that’s why he was killed.

Wayne Cooney was caught on CCTV returning to the scene of the crime where he had dumped a bike and some gloves after the shooting.

By the time he got there, they’d already been seized as evidence. His DNA and was found on the gloves along with firearms residue.

Despite that forensic link, the case against him was largely circumstantial but after just over three hours of deliberations, the jurors were satisfied that he was guilty of all charges.

Mr. Cooney will be sentenced on Friday.
