Issue highlighted by former workers at Debenhams.
An opposition TD is bringing forward proposals to overhaul the protections given to workers when their employer goes bust.
The issue has come to the fore as a result of the liquidation of Debenhams with staff holding protests outside the former stores over their redundancy terms.
106 staff in Newbridge were among over 1,000 made redundant in April, 2020, when the firm closed its Irish operations.
However this issue affects workers in many other companies when they go out of business.
Mick Barry, Solidarity TD for Cork North Central, says workers need to be prioritised when companies collapse:
I launched a Bill which aims to protect workers’ in liquidation situations. The Bill has been hugely inspired by the #Debenhams workers.
