Demonstrations in Newbridge and Athy as Government pauses changes and Tánaiste admits “we got it wrong”
Hundreds of special needs assistants (SNAs), parents and children cheered and chanted outside Leinster House yesterday afternoon and in Newbridge and Athy demanding clarity and certainty from the Government.

In an interview on Wednesday, Tánaiste Simon Harris had admitted the government "got it wrong" and the system needs to be updated.
The review and reallocation of SNAs for the next school year was paused after it sparked a backlash from parents and educators.
Locally despite the rain yesterday, large numbers of SNA's, parents and children turned out to show their support in Newbridge and Athy.

There was also a number of local representatives including local councillors; Social Democrats Cllr. Chris Pender and Independent Ireland Cllr. Bill Clear. There were representatives for Sinn Fein, Aontú and Labour aswell as Forsá and the Kildare Council for Trade Unions

SNA Yvonne from Kildare Town Community School called for greater recognition for the SNA's:
