Tasers for frontline Gardaí are being considered by management.
Right now, just the Armed Support Unit and Emergency Response Unit carry the weapons.
There have been mixed views towards their introduction, as the UN has in the past raised concerns about their use, considering it a form of torture.
But retired Sergeant, Christy Galligan says they're needed for public safety:
