It comes as the Department of Housing has recorded an underspend of €1.5B over two years

A Kildare North TD has said you can't recover from the housing crisis in a day.

Speaking on Kildare Today on Friday, Bernard Durkan blamed Covid lockdowns for the €1.5B underspend by the Department of Housing, but he admitted the housing crisis existed "for years and years before covid."

Maynooth's Professor of Social Policy, Rory Hearne said that the number of new homes that have started to be built in Kildare have fallen in the last 12 months by 44%.

"That's your department's figures [Bernard]. That's fact," Hearne insisted.
