The new protocol was unveiled by Kildare County Council on Tuesday.
The Athy Food, Drink & Skills Innovation Hub has been included in the Kildare 2025 economic development strategy.
The facility is to be built in the Model School on the Dublin Road.
KCC, in February, undertook a public consultation on the building works, which nvolve the refurbishment and fit-out of the vacant building to provide training, demonstration and shared commercial kitchens, café/meeting area, co-working areas, ancillary sanitary and storage facilities and all associated site works.
Kildare Fianna Fáil Senator, Fiona O'Loughlin, is welcoming the projects inclusion in the KCC economic strategy. "This is a fantastic proposal, and I am delighted to see that it is included in Kildare County Council’s economic development strategy.”
“We have a thriving agri food sector in Kildare and produce some of the highest quality produce in the country. The model school in Athy is a great location to harness this expertise and to foster innovative solutions in the sector”
“This hub will bring industry and academic experts together to collaborate and hopefully drive innovation and employment in the local area.”
