Meanwhile, Maria Steen has less than 24 hours to try and secure a bid for the Aras.
The row over how events unfolded at Kildare County Council before a vote on Maria Steen's presidential nomination bid unfolded yesterday is rumbling on.
Independent Cllr Tom McDonnell told Kfm that he believes he was "held up" outside while his proposal to support Ms Steen was dropped.
He claimed that he was approached by Cllr Brian O'Loughlin outside the meeting, who said he was withdrawing his support for Steen.
Speaking to Kfm, Cllr Brian O'Loughlin (FF) said he did speak to McDonnell before the meeting to express concerns around Steen's conservative views.
Both councillors were roughly three minutes late to the chamber.
During those few minutes after 2pm, when the vote was due to be held, McDonnell's motion to support Steen was dropped, with a number of cllrs, including Fianna Fail Cllrs, saying it was dropped because Cllr McDonnell was late into the room.
Both McDonnell and O'Loughlin were late to the meeting.
Cllr O' Loughlin, who originally supported Cllr McDonnell's proposal to put Maria Steen's name forward, said his support was "never guaranteed".
In a statement to Kfm, a spokesperson for Kildare County Council said: A Special Meeting was held in the Council Chamber, Áras Chill Dara, on Monday 22 September at 2.00 p.m., to hear motions for presidential nomination. One motion was listed on the agenda in the names of Councillors Tom Mc Donnell, Noel Heavey and Brian O’Loughlin."
They added: "The meeting commenced on time and proceeded with the order of business as listed on the agenda. The motion for a presidential nomination, listed as item number 3, was not proposed. Therefore, it was removed from the agenda in line with Kildare County Council’s Standing Orders, for the regulation of business and proceedings at meetings of the Council. As there were no further items listed, the meeting concluded."
Meanwhile, Maria Steen has less than 24 hours to try and secure a bid for the Aras.
Independent Ireland TDs will decide if they will give the barrister their backing this morning.
So far the only confirmed candidates are Heather Humphreys, Jim Gavin and Catherine Connelly.
