Communities throughout Co. Kildare are being invited to apply for monies under the Community Involvement Scheme & Local Improvement Scheme

The LIS is a scheme to support the improvement of non-public rural roads which provide access to homes and farms, as well as amenities such as lakes and rivers.

Up to 85% of the funding is provided, with the balance coming from residents.

The scheme is subject to strict criteria and conditions set down by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

Qualifying roads must:-

*Be of benefit to agricultural production and benefit two or more parcels of land owned or occupied by different persons engaged in separate agricultural activities

*Provide access for harvesting purposes (including turf or seaweed) for two or more persons separately engaged in such activities

*There must be more than one landholder on an LIS road.

While the Community Involvement Scheme  encourages a joint approach, on a voluntary basis,  with groups of local residents and landowners for the restoration of public roads that are lightly trafficked, single lane or cul de sac roads.

Up to 80% of the funding is provided, with the balance coming from the local community.

The closing date for applications is September 3rd, and applications may be made here
