A postmortem showed the cause of death of the deceased was a brain haemorrhage due to head and neck trauma.
Two men from Monasterevin accused of murdering Dylan McCarthy two and a half years ago are claiming self-defence, when one of the men "took a running kick" at him while he was on the ground.
Dylan McCarthy (29) from Limerick, died on August 22, 2022, at Tallaght University Hospital after sustaining severe injuries during an altercation outside a pub on Dublin Road, Monasterevin, the night before.
A postmortem showed the cause of death of the deceased was a brain haemorrhage due to head and neck trauma.
Sean Kavanagh (26) of St Mary’s Lane, Monasterevin and Calvin Dunne (24) of Abbey View, Monasterevin, pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the murder.
It is the State’s case, according to the Irish Independent, that Mr McCarthy died after he received punches from Sean Kavanagh (26) and Calvin Dunne (24), before he received “a vicious kick” to the head from Mr Dunne while trying to get up off the ground.
The trial is expected to involve 97 witnesses and will last just over two weeks.
