Update Requested For Curragh Plains Management Plan

It comes as the Curragh Plains Conservation Management Plan was submitted to the Tánaiste and Taoiseach for consideration in December 2024

A status update in relation to the timeline of the Curragh Plains Conservation Management Plan has been requested by a local councillor.

It comes as the Curragh Plains Conservation Management Plan was submitted to the Tánaiste and Taoiseach for consideration in December 2024 when the Tánaiste approved the publication of the document.

Earlier this month, Taoiseach Martin told Kildare Today that progress had been made for the National Parks and Wildlife Services to be the "lead organisation" for the management of the Curragh.

Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael Councillor for Kildare Newbridge MD Tracey O' Dwyer said that she was "surprised that the council hasn't chased it up" despite her acknowledging that the council will play no further role in the process.

She added that there are "all sorts of activities happening on the Curragh that shouldn't be happening there" and that without protection they will continue to happen.

Kfm had previously reported on illegal encampments on the Curragh in late April, with widespread dumping caused to the plains and to Cill Dara Golf club.
