Vehicle In Naas Detected Driving Almost 50KM/H Over Speed Limit On National Slow Down Day

Gardaí conducted a national speed enforcement operation throughout the day (31 August)

A vehicle in Naas was detected driving at almost 50km/h above the speed limit yesterday (31 August) on National Slow Down Day.

The motorist travelled at 128km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R403 in Naas.

Naas Roads Policing Unit also conducted a speed check on the R445 at Littleconnell, Newbridge where the speed limit is 80km/h.

According to Gardaí on social media, "several motorists were detected exceeding the speed limit"

The highest speed recorded by them was 125km/h, with numerous other offences recorded just below 110km/h.

A total of just over 1,000 vehicles were travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit during the day nationwide.

Gardaí conducted a national speed enforcement operation throughout the day (31 August), along with GoSafe Mobile and Static Safety Cameras.

Other notable speeding offences included:
• 194km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N56 at Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
• 99km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Navan Road, Dublin 15
• 104km/h in a 50km/h zone on the Dublin Road in Galway

Gardaí say yesterday’s initiative sought to "promote safer driving and reduce speed-related collisions nationwide", also coinciding with the first full week of schools reopening across the country when there are higher volumes of traffic on the roads.

There was also a specific focus in relation to traffic activity in the vicinity of schools at opening and closing times.
