Website trading as Collins Kildare is actually based in Asia
Shoppers are being warned to be cautious of online stores that appear Irish but are actually based overseas according to the Irish Times.
It comes after a number of people shared negative experiences with websites using names like Collins Kildare and Murray-Dublin, which falsely suggest a local connection.
Speaking to the Irish Times one customer believed she was buying from a Kildare-based business, only to receive the wrong size dress shipped from China. Another woman received poor quality bags advertised as leather, but made from cheap plastic.
When trying to return items, customers were offered partial refunds or gift cards instead, and faced costly and complicated return processes—often ending with their parcels being sent back to them months later, unopened.
While some shoppers managed to get their money back through PayPal, others were left out of pocket.
The advice is to research online shops carefully, avoid deals that seem too good to be true, and check where a website is actually based before buying.
