By Martin Osborne - Head Of News

New legislation means family members of those who’ve been granted international protection will only be allowed to come to Ireland if that person can support them.

Cabinet has signed off on sweeping changes to the immigration system, with stricter controls on family reunification.

New legislation means family members of those who’ve been granted international protection will only be allowed to come to Ireland if that person can support them.

A parent will need to be earning a minimum of around €44,400 euro to apply to bring in one child, and this rises by around €10,000 for any additional children.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said today is about "harmonising" the rules.
