Concerns Rise As Organ Transplant Operations Decline

According to the HSE - 202 organ transplants were performed in Ireland in 2025, compared to 263 last year.

The Irish Kidney Association says it's concerned the number of organ transplant operations have fallen for the second year in a row.

According to the HSE -  202 organ transplants were performed in Ireland in 2025, compared to 263 last year.

It says while the implementation of the "opt out" system of donation is welcome, the current structure isn't working as it should be.

National Advocacy Manager with the association, Colin White, says a lack of funding is impacting progress:
