He was arrested following a stabbing incident on Capel Street in the city centre on the 29th of July, in which a Garda on patrol was injured.
The 23-year-old has been charged with assault causing harm and producing a knife capable of causing serious injury.
His next court appearance is set for the 3rd of September.
