One in seven households were in arrears on electricity payments at the end of last year, according to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities.
It's up 19 per cent higher on the previous year, and its the largest number of people in arrears in recent years.
The last two months of 2025, saw a significant jump from 303,000 customer in November, to 319,459 in December.
The average amount of electricity owed stands at 466 euro.
