During the altercation, the child was pushed to the ground.
Gardaí in Newbridge are appealing for witnesses following an assault on Moorefield Road.
The incident happened between 4.30pm and 5pm on Friday February 19th.
A couple were walking with their child when a white car approached them.
The driver got out of the vehicle and punched the child’s father in the head.
During the altercation, the child was pushed to the ground.
Gardaí say Moorefield Road would have been busy at that time on a Friday evening and they are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage.
